It’s not just my Jeep that can handle going off track

16 May

Turns out I can too.

What is it in us that as soon as we experience some success, we then turn around and sabotage it. Or is it just me?

Last week I wrote about how great it’s been being healthy, then I had a pretty bad run from Wednesday to Saturday. Ironic, eh? So today I set out to write about going off track and finding your way back. And using our offroading in the Jeep as an example of how sometimes things are built to go off track, are also.

But going through my emails this morning, I found two articles that covered the topic in a much better way than I could.

So in the spirit of finding great stuff and sharing, here they are.

From Dave Navarro at Rock Your Day – Why you Can’t Make that Habit Stick. Dave has a direct approach that I find really motivating.

Then there’s the post from one of my favourite health blogs, Health Habits about Yo-Yo Dieting. I love Doug’s perspective!

Bottom line – when you get off track, stop making excuses for yourself. Put it in perspective about how well you’ve done and know that you can do it. Then stop the BS and just do it!

That’s what I’ll tell myself tomorrow. Seriously. Back to planning!

So long as you go back “on” the road, you’re ok. I find that planning a “healthy” cheater meal helps keep me on track.

Also, on your topic of how long it takes to make a habit … I think it took me about 6 months of clean eating before it became easy and second nature. This was as much because I had to learn new recipies! When you don’t know what/how to cook healthy, it is SOooo hard!!

Don’t forget that you can’t eat the same thing every day – you’ll get bored. Because of this, I try to find new recipies one per week.

This week’s new recipe was tabouleh salad with quinoa and chickpeas.

This week’s healthy “cheater” recipe was devilled eggs made with home-grown eggs (free range), paprika and mayo made with olive oil!! It is a “healthy cheater”. :)

Hey Em – thanks for the words of encouragement! And I think you’re right – I was starting to rotate the same recipes, and need to go back and find some new ones.

Are you sharing your quinoa and chickpea recipe?? Please!

I’m still up for those home-grown eggs the next time I see you! Those are the best kind!
