6 Can’t Do Without Kitchen Tools

2 Jun

I love gadgets. Gadgets of all kinds. I’ve bought more gadgets that don’t work than those that do. But what happens to my gadgets? After a couple of years gathering dust, they’re off to recycle (ie. donated).

There are definitely tools and gadgets that help make it easier to cook healthy. Sure you can have drawers and cupboards full of crap, but why have more when you can have less?

I’m not talking about pots and pans and the regular stuff – I definitely use those as well.

I put together a list of the tools that I can’t do without. (more…)

When does healthy become a habit?

8 May

21 Pounds in 21 Days.

Join our 30 Day Plan.

21 Days to weight loss.

From all the book titles, I have to admit that I was convinced that if I did something for 21 or 30 days, it would be a habit forever. Silly, eh? Well, the books say so (sometimes I DO believe everything I read!).

My experience the past week has me a bit curious. Starting out with my healthy eating, if I didn’t plan, I didn’t eat healthy. No ifs and or buts. So I diligently planned each and every meal – sometimes swapped one meal for another, but mostly stuck to the plan (plus that’s what I had in the fridge!). But something interesting happened both while I was in Kelowna and when I got home. (more…)

The most surprising thing I’ve learned so far

25 Apr

I’ve spent countless hours in the past reading blogs. To me, they’re my new magazines. I used to spend night after night reading magazines, but I love how blogs give so many different perspectives. Instead of having a magazine on my lap while I watch TV (yes, I pretty much always do 2 things at once!), I have my laptop.

I read blogs about celebrity gossip (can’t believe I just admitted that), health, fitness, recipes, gluten-free, social media, technology, business, inspiration, design, dogs. And I read a ton about blogging. Pretty wide variety of topics, isn’t it. And I’ve always admired many bloggers on their ability to connect with their readers in a seemingly effortless way (and there are some that are not-so-effortless, but those I only visit once).

Everything I read about blogging is about how to get yourself motivated, how to write, how to build traffic, how to get comments. But one thing you don’t read much about is the amazing thing that happens when you go out in the real world. (more…)

Green your dog. Simplify his life (and yours)

22 Apr

As many of you know, I spend a lot of time with dogs. Not just mine, but other people’s! It’s such a blast, and being able to watch and learn from these amazing animals has really made a difference in my life.

I’m in the process of starting a dog blog, but in the meantime, I wanted to share my thoughts on making our dogs’ lives more green. And I’m looking at it not only for the impact on the environment, but I truly feel I can help you make a difference in your wallet as well (and save you having all the crap in your house).

To me, there isn’t anything more “green” than nature. By having dogs in my house (I have 2 dogs), I live with nature every day, even in downtown Toronto. We are on a very dangerous trend, in my opinion. (more…)

Delivering happiness

6 Apr

That’s literally what happened to me this morning. Someone delivered happiness to my door.

First there was a knock on the door. It was UPS with a package for me (for a change! It’s usually something coming for Jay from Ebay). He opened the package (nosy!) and in it was 2 ADVANCE copies of Tony Hsieh’s new book Delivering Happiness. Don’t know Tony Hsieh? He’s the CEO of Zappos.com. Don’t know Zappos.com? Zappos is known for it’s culture of customer service. Go check it out for a huge selection of footwear and clothing – I’ve been ordering from Zappos for a while. Never heard of Delivering Happiness?

Exactly. IT’S NOT RELEASED YET. And I got a copy. Woohoo! Actually I have 2 copies, and will be giving the other copy away in the upcoming weeks. (more…)
